Field recording, computational translation, and physical making — plotters, kinetic installation, and ecological storytelling.

Interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of field recording, computational translation, and physical making. Current practice records the rhythms of places — birds, water, built environments — and translates them through Pure Data into pen-plotter drawings, asking what happens at each step of the crossing.

Selected Work

Plotter drawings, kinetic installation, projection, and ecological film — selected for grant and residency review.

Raven Drawing

2026 · Sound-to-Plotter Pilot

Approximately 90 seconds of intermittent raven calling were field-recorded and translated through a Pure Data patch into spatial drawing instructions, then executed on a pen-plotter. First completed pilot of a practice-based inquiry into cross-media translation.

Kinetic Installation · Fabrication

The Oracle Machine

2026 · Kinetic sculpture, custom electronics, sound

A kinetic installation that responds to presence and sound. It cycles through five behavioural states — Dormant, Attentive, Overwhelmed, Receptive, Withdrawn — each governing how it listens, moves, and whether it will accept a consultation. In an age of systems that are always “on,” the work proposes a machine that breathes, rests, and sometimes says no.

Projection Mapping

Ouroboros

Projection mapping for architectural surfaces

Light and image mapped onto built form — turning architecture into a temporary ritual of cycles, regeneration, and urban surface.

Animation Short

Punarjanani

2019–21 · Directed animation

A 10-minute animated film on cycles of ecological destruction and regeneration. Bronze medal, ONE Earth Awards 2022; selection, BNP Paribas Green Film Festival 2022.

Punarjanani — ecological destruction and regeneration.

Method

A pipeline treated as collaboration, not automation.

  1. 01 — Field recording Environmental sound captured on location; duration and intermittency preserved as primary material.
  2. 02 — Computational translation Audio analysed and mapped to spatial drawing instructions via Pure Data; generative systems as collaborators.
  3. 03 — Physical making Pen-plotter execution, kinetic fabrication, and installation — line, motion, and presence as records of time.

Research interests

  • Translation between media — what survives, what transforms, what unexpectedly emerges
  • Field recording and deep listening as research method
  • Computational pipelines (Pure Data, generative systems) as collaborators, not tools
  • Drawing as a record of rhythm and time
  • Practice-based research methodology; care ethics in artistic practice
